Monday Musings- A Quick Visit To The Desert

Happy Monday, ladies. My brain is buzzing with many things this week. I just got home from a very quick (48 hr) trip to Palm Springs. I arrived wearing colors and clothes that fit where I live, but after an hour in the desert, I began to feel like I was wearing boring clothes:)

Palm Springs

WEARING –Ā  FRAMESĀ  –Ā  SIMILAR BLAZERĀ  –Ā  WHITE SHIRTĀ  –Ā  Ā REFINED BI-STRETCH PANTSĀ  –Ā  SLIP-ON SNEAKERSĀ  –Ā  SHOULDER BAG 40% OFFĀ  –Ā  SUITCASE CURRENT COLOR

It wasn’t hot, but the vibe seemed to call for brighter colors and more relaxed shapes. Removing my structured blazer helped, but not enough. I wanted to be wearing flowing, bright cheery fabrics but the one caftan I brought never saw the light of day during this trip because it’s a style stretch for me.

These Bi-stretch pants traveled like a dream and never bagged out, even after being shoehorned into a cramped airline seat. I’m wearing the navy which appears black, but I may get the gray just for a lighter option as we head into spring.

To fly home, I pulled out all the stops and wore my blue sweater! Still not vibrant but more colorful than neutrals.

And why was I in Palm Springs? A color analysis that blew my mind. I shouldn’t be surprised at the results, but I am. I have much to absorb about what I learned and I’ll share more in the near future. I expect this will be my last color consultation for some time because I finally found one that convinced me of my true season.

Miracles

I’ve been meaning to read A Course In Miracles for many years and have been intimidated by its length. My friend kept insisting I needed to get into it so when I found great reviews for this abbreviated audible book, I decided it was a great starting point.Ā  Have you read A Course In Miracles?

WOW

wow shine spray

This Wow hair shine spray is simply amazing! It’s not the least bit oily or greasy and does not change the texture of my hair. It’s the last thing I spray on my hair in the morning and gives it a sparkling shine. It’s one of my best finds in a long time.

3 bare mineral pink lipsticks

I’ve been slowly building my collection of Bare Minerals lipstick over the last few months and loving them. They’re hydrating without being goopy and stay on very, very well… which matters under a mask. I’ve been focusing on the pinks but plan to dive into other shades as well. My latest is the Creativity which is so pretty on.

What’s in a name?

I think of myself as modern and as progressive as the next woman. For some reason, the name of some beauty products disturbs me. I was shopping for eyeshadow on Saturday and found one I liked by Urban Decay. I assumed I wouldn’t buy it because most of their product names are edgy. I was thrilled to discover it is simply called “Mushroom” so I bought it and love it. It looks very metallic but goes on fairly matte, go figure.

They make a great mascara called Perversion which I stopped using because that name bothered me. I know those types of names are part of their branding message, but I’m determined to bring beauty and elegance into my life this year, and they turn me off. Am I alone here?

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

One of my favorite places Palm Springs. As soon as I hit that beautiful airport I relax. Glad you had such a wonderful time
    Lynn

    1. Me too. The airport is so fun!

  2. Looking forward to the post on the color consult. Would love to know the name of the consultant.

I love Urban Decay lipsticks, but absolutely hate their names. Iā€™m really liking the colors of the Bare Minerals lipsticks so I will look into them the next time I buy lipstick. Thank you for the information. I look forward to hearing about your most recent color consultant.

  4. I tend to steer away from products because of names, too. I’ve always thought interior house paint color names were selected as a drinking game – wondering if the same applies to cosmetics names?! šŸ™‚

  5. Sharon Engram says:

Are you letting your hair go natural or have you decided to color again?

    Looks like a fun trip!

    1. I am letting it go natural. I have about 3 1/4″ grown out so far.

  6. You are not alone with those names of cosmetics. It seems just weird to me.
Love all your Monday musings! Very interesting post.
Looking forward to hearing about your color analysis. I love that stuff and have had mine done several times too. I’ve finally hit on my true colors and am having so much fun with them and purging my wardrobe of what doesn’t work.

I try not to feel like a tourist in NYC, I can do better in the winter, but in the summer, well I do my best.

Part of the problem, is having to wear comfy sandals/sneakers with support so I can walk the 10 miles a day..

I have fun on the subway, studying older women who are stylish but not dressed like 20 year olds..trying to figure out why they looks so put together! šŸ™‚

Would love some PD resort wear ideas!

    1. I adore people watching too:) Especially chic older women

Hi, I agree. with you about the names. I do a little girls sewing club to get them to eventually remake their clothes so they can be modest and yet look elegant! this is why I love your input. Sherri Feehery

  9. Totally agree with your comment about product names! I loved several UD products but stopped buying and switched to Tarte.

    1. Tarte has some amazing products!

  10. Jennifer ā€” Did you ever say where you moved to a while back? For some reason I thought you were in the Palm Springs area.

I am going to check out those lipsticks and maybe the mushroom eyeshadow although I donā€™t need either ā€” lol. I am definitely buying the Wow hairspray!

    1. We thought about the Palm Spring area and loved it but ended up further north, closer to my grandson:)

  11. Thank you for sharing the WOW product you are using to make your hair so shiny. Beautiful results, and your positive review is also appreciated.

  12. Ha! I was in PS yesterday! I missed you!

  13. Am looking forward to hearing about your colour consultation. So happy for you! -Brenda-

  14. I agree- Urban Decayā€™s product names turned me off too. However, years ago an Ulta employee (a male!) told me that their eye pencils were the best and Iā€™ve been using them ever since! While a lot of their eye pencils have edgy colors there are neutral ones too- even ā€œMushroomā€ which I use daily!

  15. I saw some very offensive names in Nars products and now don’t want any of that brand. Glad to know I am not the only one. Can’t wait to read about your color consult. I had one done to celebrate my retirement and it has been so helpful. I think the lady I used nailed it.

    1. That’s wonderful!

  16. Great post! Can’t wait to hear about your trip! Give me a call when you have a chance!

  17. I like Bare Minerals eye shadow which goes on matte but looks metallic. Kind of magical. I do like there lipsticks too. Great color and nice texture. I would be a bit afraid of a company named Urban Decay.
I am interested in reading ā€œA Course in Miraclesā€. Sounds very up-lifting. šŸ˜Š

  18. Totally with you on product names. Maybe it’s being an adult that makes us care. Take perversion: it may not bother 20 (or even 30) – somethings, but the meaning is unpleasant even before the sexual connotations. It also angers me that many of these words / names are anti women. Why do we want to support that? As other women have said, there are plenty of other products out there. The F-bomb always makes me think of my dad, an English teacher, who when faced with profanity mocked the folks using it, stating that they had the vocabulary of a parrot. (And not a well-brought up parrot at that – LOL)

    1. LOL, I always assume they just can’t think of anything more intelligent to say:)

  19. I know the feeling of looking out of place. On a trip to Scotland I took a beautiful periwinkle blue raincoat. I stood out like a beacon! Everyone there wore black coats. There used to be a website you could go to to see what street wear was like in different cities around the globe. Iā€™m from Oregon which is extremely casual, so it was very helpful for a trip to Chicago. I havenā€™t tried to find that site for quite awhile.
I know you travel with just a carry on. Iā€™d love to see a post about what you take for skincare, makeup and hair products. I find it very hard to do when it comes to packing these liquid items in the allowed baggie.

    1. I am picturing your periwinkle raincoat and wishing I had one. No matter where I wore it:) Liquids are a struggle, I agree but travel sizes are super helpful. I decant most thjings or use travel sizes. I actually forgot my hair gel and spray so was grateful for my sunhat:)

    2. One time while traveling in Switzerland/Germany, I was wearing a bright maroon coat- that I loved- and my family like it as they could spot me in a crowd, and would never lose me! šŸ™‚

  20. Love your hair! It looks fabulous! Hope you had a wonderful time in Palm Springs and am looking forward to hearing about your color analysis. There are makeup brands I walk right by because of their names and what they conjure (such as Urban Decay). So, I get it. Your travel wardrobe was great for traveling but did tend to be more “business casual” than resort; hence, the feeling of needing to lighten up. It’s hard for me to think resort wear when it’s currently 30 degrees here with 5 inches of snow on the ground (and, I’m in South Carolina!).
