Nordstrom Sale Preview: Last Year’s Best Sellers

Clothing sales can be dangerous territory because they’re usually filled with stuff no one else wanted. The leftovers. That blouse that fit everyone wrong or the color that flattered no one. Those low prices can be pretty enticing, so we may buy things that aren’t our style or don’t coordinate with anything in our wardrobe. I call those wardrobe orphans, and they’re a total waste of money. But there is one sale that’s different… The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s your opportunity to save on new fall merchandise from some of the best brands before the season even starts.

This year, early access begins July 11, for the highest tier of cardholders. The next tier gains access on July 12th, which is me, and then the sale opens to all card members on July 13th. Shopping begins for everyone else on July 17, so it’s smart to be a card member. You can sign up here. I have a Nordstrom Visa card which I use for groceries, gas, and almost everything else because it racks up Nordstrom notes to spend in-store.

I’ll be covering some of the sale, but I’m not going to beat it to death. That gets old really fast in my book. Today I’m sharing some of Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale brands and products that were top sellers last year and similar items that might appeal to you. This is also a great sale to shop for holiday gifts. You can’t purchase anything yet, but you can add them to a wish list which saves it until you’re eligible to buy.

Kut From The Kloth makes a great faux suede, machine-washable little moto jacket that seems to come back in some form each year. This year’s version comes in five colors and doesn’t have exposed zip pockets. It has the same quilted sleeves and super soft fabric.

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Ultra Lite Long Sleeve Lounge Shirt and Pants

This cozy pajama set is perfect for crisp fall and winter nights and mornings curled up in front of a fire with a cup of coffee and a good book. I bought this sold out best selling Barefoot Dreams crop pajamas set last year and LOVE them. Funny story…I wore them running errands, not realizing they are pajamas, so I think of these more for lounging than sleeping. These will also make a wonderful Christmas gift to a daughter or sister. I have these on my wish list in the Driftwood color.

Monica Vinader Mini Paper Clip Chain Necklace

It’s hard to go wrong with a simple, chic gold chain. They look great alone or layered with other necklaces. I particularly like them layered with classic pearls to modernize the look. This is very similar to the best-selling deco paper clip version from last year.

Rails Top

I love cotton gauze shirts, and Rails makes some great ones. This comes in several great fall colors you could wear when the weather is still warm, but you want a fall vibe.

Cashmere Crewneck Sweater

It’s hard to go wrong with a classic cashmere sweater, and this sale always has lots of terrific options. I have this Nordstrom brand cashmere sweater in several colors and find it a fabulous value for the price. It’s soft and fits well. Last year’s best-selling sweater is back in 6 great colors. The moths ate my dark gray heather last year, so I have it, plus the blue ceramic color, on my wish list.

Vince Camuto Ponte Ankle Pants

A great quality pair of black pants is another one of those classic staples that I like to keep in my closet all year long. They’re a fabulous alternative to wearing denim, and they pair so well with a multitude of blouses and sweaters. This pair from Vince Camuto is made with a ponte knit, similar to this pair that sold very well in last year’s sale.

Eileen Fisher Token Slingback Wedge Bootie

My feet typically love Eileen Fisher’s shoes, so I’m very interested in these beautiful slingback wedge booties. The almost $100 in savings is even more appealing! The suede puts me in mind of her Juku pump that sold out last year, but I think I am liking this style even more.

Barbour Clydebank Quilted Jacket

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is always a wonderful time to grab a new winter jacket since they are typically more of a pricey investment item. Quilted jackets like this one from Barbour are gaining in popularity, and one of their quilted jackets was a best-selling item last year. I love the sleek combination of black and gold with the textured corduroy collar.

Madewell Cameron Ribbed Crop Cardigan

Cropped button front cardigans look wonderful paired with denim or slacks this fall and winter, and even into the spring. Last year’s best selling cardigan was by Halogen, but I love this ribbed one by Madewell even more! It comes in a very pretty blue color, but you can’t go wrong with a classic black or simple white.

Madewell Paperclip Chain Necklace

This necklace made the best-sellers list last year, and I predict that it will again this year. If you don’t love the miniature size of the above necklace from Monica Vinader, try this one from Madewell.
