Weekend Reading: Fall Finds, Reader Favorites & Sales Worth Browsing

Happy Weekend. We seem socked in with misty rain and brisk tempsand I’m thrilled because it’s my favorite time of year. I wore this earlier in the week, and the vest was enough. Now? Not on its own.

My navy vest is new, and I’ve been wearing the daylights out of it, which has me rethinking all the vests in my wardrobe. It’s a perfect layer in California and apparently here in Vancouver. The Chambray shirt is affordable and ancient, and I wear it all the time.

I wore them with my new Eileen Fisher Knit pants, which look like jeans, are as comfy as my Miramars, but have a more refined vibe. EF says “they have the soul of a jean, and the comfort of a knit”, which I’d agree with. My red loafers are getting a surprising amount of wear because I added these thin orthotic insoles, so they’re very comfy. You can’t see my earrings, but they’re a touch of red.

Question of the week

My reading list could use a little help, so I’m turning this one over to you. What books have you read lately that you couldn’t put down? Fiction, mysteries, memoirs…I’m curious what everyone is reading this fall.

Bestsellers of the week – what readers loved most:

• It looks like many of you had fall color on your minds this week, too. This packable down jacket was a reader favorite, and I ordered the Lush Burgundy after deciding the Chartreuse and I were not meant to be.

• This silk bandana was another favorite. I have my eye on the Claret, which will work nicely with my new burgundy jacket.

• These Quince pull-on kick flare jeans were another reader best seller this week. I’m excited to hear what you think of them, so if you ordered a pair, please come back and share how they fit and how they compare to our much-loved Talbots pull-on jeans.

• This Away Overnight Bag is another reader favorite this week. It’s a nice size for an overnight trip or as a personal item.

• This Talbots cable knit cardigan is back on the best seller list and, surprisingly, hasn’t been picked over yet. All of the colors and almost every size are still available.
• I wasn’t surprised to see this wireless ThirdLove bra among the best sellers again. We seem to agree that comfort is nonnegotiable

On my radar:

• I don’t typically think of J.McLaughlin when I’m shopping, but I took a peek at their new fall collection and found myself lingering.
  • This shirt caught my eye because you get the crisp look of a button-down with a softer knit body.
  • I also love the sculptural gold buckle on this leather belt.

• I peeked through Chico’s latest sneak peek and found a few things worth sharing.
  • This denim shacket caught my eye because it would look great with corduroys this fall and feels a little different from another denim jacket, plus it’s on sale.
  • This ombré scarf has several colors I wear, plus just enough going on to wake up a plain sweater.
  • I’m seeing this style of earring everywhere lately. The mixed metals make them easy to wear with what you already own, and at under $30, they’re an inexpensive way to play with the trend.

• While scrolling through my favorite department store, I noticed they have lots of Tommy Bahama and their shipping is free, both ways!
  • This sweater caught my eye and both colors are pretty. I’m really drawn to the sage!
  • This double breasted cropped trench is right on trend, and I know TB quality is better than many.
  • I also love this zip hoodie with the nautical stripes. Notice how beautifully the stripes line up?

• Barn jackets aren’t going anywhere, and this Lands’ End version has a little bit longer length and comes in two colors.

• Electric Picks has launched their fall collection! The Mini Richie Necklace is their take on a tennis necklace with more petite crystals, which makes it a little easier to wear every day. There’s also a matching bracelet with the same smaller crystals that would make a great holiday gift.

Highlights from the weekend sales:

Talbots has 40% off one item and 30% off everything else and I spotted a few new fall pieces.

• Their grey and black animal prints feel much more like me, especially this elbow-sleeve sweater and this cashmere cheetah sweater, which I could resist. Cheetah in cool tones…sign me up.
• They’re also making their pull-on trousers in corduroy for fall. Considering how much we’ve all liked their pull-on jeans, these immediately went on my radar.

J.Crew Factory has 40% off new arrivals right now.

• This argyle sweater is a fun way to play with the argyle trend we’re seeing again this fall without making too much of a commitment.
• It’s getting surprisingly difficult to find a sweater that’s actually 100% cotton, so this cable crewneck is worth a look. I also love the Chocolate Berry color for fall.
