Would You Wear This: Peplum Jacket

Happy Saturday ladies and welcome to the weekend. Weā€™re on the final countdown to Christmas and Iā€™m almost ready. I’m heading to San Francisco today to spend some special time with my daughter Vanessa. I don’t see her nearly enough so treasure the times we have.

Pam canā€™t join us for our weekly would you wear it this weekend. I spotted this mannequin yesterday and would love your thoughts on it. I like to hear your opinions on what mannequins are wearing because it helps me understand how you want to dress for your shape and lifestyle.

I would wear this if it perfectly fit my size 16/18 curves. Sophisticated and elegant.

  2. I am a huge fan of peplum. It works on my pear shape as do ruffled colllars. I would just like to see this as a looser collar for me to wear it. The style looks fresh and new in this colour, pattern and style.

Wishing you a very happy Christmas!

  3. I would hop on this in a heart beat …if I was six inches taller and forty pounds lighter!! I like the suggestions of navy or chocolate brown too but an outfit like this needs to be same color top to toe to look sophisticated. A word about peplums and the generous of hip/derriĆØre …when I was pregnant I had an adorable top with a peplum bottom it was like this top, the peplum shaped in, not just a big frill seamed into the bottom of the top. I felt that it was very flattering until…a co worker said that ” this type of top reminds me of a Disney hippopotamus wearing a tutu” ( I think she was referencing either Dumbo or Fantasia and no, subtlety was not her forte!:) I never wore the top again!
Over the years I have worn peplums occasionally , avoiding set in or too short/long. The comment about the hippo I never forgot…

    1. That would be a comment that sticks in the mind. Iā€™m
Not sure the commenter was correct but I do know it was an unkind thing for them to say.

  4. I find peplums very flattering for my pear shape, so yes to this top! If you have a narrow waist and curvy hips, why not flaunt it?

I have a long neck so the height of this collar would work, too. For a real hourglass shape, I would go for a curvy girl pencil skirt, contrary to what we pears have been taught.

  5. No peplum for me as I have a straight up and down figure without much of a waist! Also it reminds me too much of Delta Burke’s wardrobe in the TV series Designing Women!

  6. While I love a peplum, this jacket looks like it would be too short for me and the high collar would bother my neck, so I would say no to this one. I like the slim pants, but I wouldn’t wear a cropped length in winter.

  7. Iā€™m a serious pear shape … so a peplum like this definitely makes me too hippy ????. Very pretty for someone else though.

  8. I donā€™t wear black a lot, so I would not buy it. But if I did, I would like it better without the embellishments, and I would belt it instead, and try a leather pencil skirt with it. I do appreciate a little waist shaping. Have a great Holiday, thanks for all your posts!

  9. Sharon Brown says:

Love the love, color, style! But not for 5’1″. Merry Christmas!

  10. Yes I would wear it. It is sophisticated and elegant. However black is my worst color so I would like it in a deep dark chocolate brown.

  11. I love the peplum, but Iā€™m not a lace person, so I wouldnā€™t wear it. The lace & bow seam to be overkill at the neckline.

  12. Nope to print and shape, never a peblum gal.

  13. J'Laine Bradley says:

I love a peplum. Iā€™m not crazy about the print on it but overall I like the look.

  14. I like the pants but not the top. The outfit looks like a costume and very severe.
I would not buy it.. It certainly is sofisticated but very feminine.

  15. This wouldn’t work for me for a variety of reasons. I’m a pear shape so that extra width at the hip isn’t flattering. Black isn’t one of my better colors (navy, brown, etc are less harsh). And I’d need to try on to see if the high collar was comfortable. I like the slim fit of the pants and the seam down the front would make me look taller and slimmer but I’m not sure about that length although I’ve noticed Melania wears it often and looks great. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  16. Toni Mathews says:

Yes, Yes, Yes… I would wear it!

It’s slimming at the waist and black in color which is always classy. The neckline is soo feminine and fufu. I love a LITTLE bling from jewelry to nails. It lights up my skin spirit.

  17. Not for me..am pear shaped and don’t need to accentuate my hips any more than nature has already deemed appropriate! Would look great on my daughter who has no hips or waist definition, since it would create some shape there. Sh always looks great in peplum styles

  18. Yes I would and I recently did! A peplum anything is a classic. Sometimes they are more ā€œinā€ than at other times but I think you can wear them any season. I will say that while I was on Prednisone, I felt like a peplum would have brought the eye to an already problem area bc I was totally thick waisted. However I got swallowed up by the tunic trend during that phase of my life and I really didnā€™t look any better trying to hide my thick waist. It is, what it was!!! I feel very feminine when I wear a peplum and a little vavavoom accenting my other curves!

  19. This looks like a cute outfit for a short little person to me. I also think the cropped pants are too casual for the jacket.

  20. Griselle CC says:

No, I wouldnā€™t wear it. I donā€™t think that peplum favors me. You need a waist otherwise highlights the fact that you donā€™t have one.

    1. Peplums create the illusion of a waist for women with straight figures.

  21. The vest you like at Talbots is even more stunning in person. You should definitely get it! I really like the construction of the peplum sweater. I lost nearly 100 lbs five years ago that left me with some sagging skin in my lower belly. Peplums are the perfect answer for hiding that!

    1. Thanks for the tip Lezlie. Iā€™m going to order it and check it out. Congrats on the weight loss! Thais wonderful

  22. I don’t like the frilly neckline & the bow, it seems like too much is going on. Minus that, I would wear the jacket.
I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!!

  23. I like the silhouette of this outfit. I would wear it if it were a softer color, say plum or navy, with silver embellishments.

  24. I wouldnā€™t wear the sweater, but I love the pants. Iā€™m not sure the peplum would work for me, and I do not like the embellishments. Also, a v-neck would be better for me. The black is fine.

  25. I love all the jewels all over the jacket, but I do not like the peplum aspect, so I would not wear it. I do like the slim pants. I would wear them! I wear all black all the time here in Florida in the winter. I seem to like some glitter on sweaters since I got older. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

  26. Not sure. But would definitely try it on. Think it is really cute

  27. I wouldn’t wear it because the high neckline is not great for my body shape. The jacket itself is also too busy for me and whilst I like the peplum (although I prefer a subtler design) the neckline with the frill and bow is too much altogether.

  28. Peplum no, print no, collar no, tie no. I like the pants.

  29. Like it. It speaks to sophisticated, but interesting too. If I were built like the mannequin I would purchase this for dressier, winter events. However, I am not built like this mannequin so, not for me.

  30. I really like the peplum style, but I don’t like the “all black” of this outfit and I don’t like the high neckline. A V-Neck or scoop neck is more flattering on me.
