One can’t deny that as we age, our beauty routines must evolve. I’m working on putting together posts on my current skincare routines for you. Many of them are affordable and can be picked up at your local drugstore or ordered on Amazon. Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these products!

Highly Rated Skin Care Products for Women Over 60

Simply Vital Collage, Retinol, and Hyaluronic Acid Anti-Aging and Recovery Cream

If we can count on social media for one thing, it’s to keep us updated on beauty products that are “trending”. This ultra-popular skincare solution can be found all over TikTok, and users claim it’s an essential addition to any mature women’s skincare regimen. It’s infused with collagen, retinol, and hyaluronic acid which work together to improve skin elasticity, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, and ensure deep hydration.

First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub

I wanted to put this product on the radar for any AWSL readers who struggle with keratosis pilaris. It’s a harmless but unsightly condition that causes tiny bumps on the skin that look like chicken skin. It happens when your hair follicles become blocked with a build-up of keratin, and the safest way to treat it is by gentle exfoliation. This exfoliating body scrub is made with chemical and physical exfoliators that smooth away bumps, rough patches, and scaly areas.

Dermend Moisturizing Bruise Formula

The older we get, the thinner and more fragile our skin becomes, which can translate to bruising easier. A quick bump into something or a routine blood draw at the doctor is all it takes for an unsightly bruise to appear…and they seem to take forever to go away! Arnica is great for helping bruises heal quicker, plus, this moisturizing formula also contains ceramides and retinol for quicker cell turnover.

Advanced Clinicals Bulgarian Rose Rescue Cream

I’ve been using the Advanced Clinicals Manuka Honey and the Advanced Clinicals Retinol Advanced Firming Cream for some time now with fabulous results. They have several other products I’d like to try, including this Bulgarian Rose Anti-Aging Rescue Cream that is supposed to help with moisturizing, restoring, and nourishing skin that is showing the effects of aging such as wrinkles, sagging, age lines, and age spots. These come in a large tub for an amazing price.

Vegamour Gro Revitalizing Shampoo

I’ve shared about my journey with thinning hair here and here. Needless to say, I am always on the lookout for products that can help me add fullness, volume, and regrowth. This GRO Revitalizing Shampoo from Vegamour looks promising. Have any AWSL readers tried it?

CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser

This is a tried and true, dermatologist-recommended facial cleanser that’s gentle and hydrating. This one is also accepted by the National Eczema Association so you know it’s non-irritating. It’s a gentle and effective option that replenishes moisture while cleansing and helps maintain the skin’s natural barrier which leaves your skin feeling refreshed and hydrated.

Elta MD UV Clear Face Sunscreen

Sunscreen is one of the best anti-aging products you can have in your routine. This Elta MD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 is a best-seller everywhere. It absorbs into your skin with no residue, so makeup goes on easily. Itā€™s sheer, lightweight, and contains hyaluronic acid, which helps hydrate your skin. If you’re looking for other sunscreen recommendations for mature skin, you can find them here.

TruSkin Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C is a terrific anti-oxidant that helps brighten the skin and fade uneven pigmentation. The L-ascorbic acid form is the most common form, but itā€™s often unstable, so itā€™s formulated with ingredients to keep it from oxidizing. If you have sensitive skin, you can read here about some vitamin C derivatives that may be gentler on your skin. This one from TruSkin is at a great price point and addresses multiple signs of aging, from fine lines to age spots, while promoting a smoother and more even complexion.

L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Moisturizer

Make sure that you are using a moisturizer daily. If you don’t have one that you love in your skincare routine, this affordable option from L’Oreal Paris is a great choice. Its luxurious texture and clinically proven formula make it a trusted choice, delivering visible results and radiant skin.

  1. Speaking of skin care, I recently had major surgery and am wondering if you or your readers have any recommendations for scar care. I’m talking very long (8+ inches) scars. Thank you in advance for any ideas.

    1. I love the silicone scar patches and scar gel by Maderma. Lots of companies make them and you can pick up great ones at your local pharmacy too.

  2. Jennifer,

This is my first posting here. I have also experienced hair thinning in the last year and am trying everything possible! I just recently stopped using Rogaine after 6 months because I didn’t really “see” any visible improvement and the product made my hair sticky. The stickiness required that I wash my hair more often which was counterproductive for the dryness I have also experienced with my all white hair! Ugh! I’m using the Vegamour hair serum and recently purchased Vegamour’s Gro+ Shampoo. I’m using it every other wash because it seems a bit heavy on my fine hair, but it is moisturizing. I also take Nutrafol Women+ oral daily supplements in the suggested dosage. I’m spending a lot of money in hopes of improvement. Hair and self-image are so closely tied together.

It helps me to know that other women have hair issues and I am not alone. I so appreciate your honesty.

    1. I’m sorry you’re struggling with this too, Janis. It’s so hard on our confidence when our hair thins to this point. I am trying lots of new things too this summer, but I did find the rogain liquid much easier than the foam and it never makes my hair greasy.

  3. I have a preservative allergy so finding products that work for me is a constant battle. Iā€™ve been using EltaMD tinted sunscreen instead of liquid makeup for several years. I love it. I recently started using La Roche-Posay products and they are amazing for my combination sensitive aging 61 year old skin. Great on my face and neck. I stack my coupons at CVS to buy the higher priced night cream and eye cream, the day cream is reasonable. I have also used the ROC line of retinol products with excellent results.

  4. Sharon K. says:

I’m going to purchase the Advanced Clinicals Manuka Honey Cream for sure. I’m a big fan of Jan Marini products, but they are so pricey. Funny how skin care products are so critical now– sure wish I had taken them seriously when I was twenty! And beyond…

    1. You and me both! My skin would be in much better shape if I had started earlier

  5. I always use CeraVe products. They work and are not over priced. Highly recommend

  6. As someone who is turning 60 in about 2 weeks I saw your posting and read it thru.
Thank you for your suggestions. I severely sensitive to so many things that it is a minefield trying out new items. I have heard thru my dermatologist about the Cereave cream/lotion. I have been using Vanicream for dry skin. I guess I am going into a new time of life.
Until two yrs ago I was fortunate to have my mother to bounce ideas off of. I do have 6 younger siblings and it seems we all have sensitive skin. I think that came from my father who passed a bit over 5 yrs ago from melanoma.
The main thing I hope I got from my parents was their strength.
Thank you again for your posting.

    1. Getting strength from your parents is so powerful, Maureen. Thank you! I have used and love that Vanicream. My dermatogist recommended it. This is all new for many of us which is why sharing our stories is so important.

  7. I have always had very sensitive, and formerly breakout prone skin. Whenever I veer from my tried and true skin care routine, I end up regretting it!
I use Cerave SA cleanser. The ā€œSAā€ is salicylic acid, which is a gentle exfoliant. It has always helped with my breakouts, and keeps old skin cells moving along.
My gold standard Double Serum, and moisturizers are from Clarins. Iā€™ve moved through the various stages, and am now using the Super Restorative day and night cream. Itā€™s a tiny bit heavy for summer, but will be perfect in fall to winter.
Iā€™d love to find a less expensive alternative, but have too many issues every time I try!
Iā€™ve recently started using Ilia skin tint, concealer, and multi stick. Very natural feeling and looking for me. Feels like Iā€™m treating my skin, rather than covering it.
Lastly, Arnica!! Itā€™s amazing! I had a rough winter. I fell on the ice, and suffered a concussion, a broken nose, and major facial bruising. I also skinned my knees. I used arnica to help with my healing. It makes bruises heal so much more quickly!

    1. Oh no, Lisa! I’m so sorry you fell this winter. Arnica is pretty amazing. I’m glad you’re on the other side of that. Take care of yourself!!

  8. I love the Advanced Clinicals Manuka Honey! I just put the Hyaluronic one in my basket! I love their products! I also use the Lā€™Oreal Revitalift Sunscreen Day cream and the Collagen cream at night. I get them on Amazon. Thank you for bringing new products to us.

    1. That Manuka Honey lotion is great and you sure canā€™t beat the price!

  9. Christine Arquilla says:

Thanks not only for the recommendations but also your comments on the products. I’ve started using First Aid Beauty and CeraVe skincare products and they are making a big difference in my skin. I’m going to look into your other recommendations, especially the sunscreen, as most I’ve found locally contain stuff I’m allergic to (aloe is one of them). I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Aloe is in so many things! Thatā€™s a challenge for you.

  10. When I click on the the Bulgarian Anti Aging Rescue cream, Manuka Honey popped up instead. Maybe Amazon doesnā€™t sell it. In the reviews, some people didnā€™t like the smell of Manuka Honey. Does it bother you? Iā€™ve used drugstore retinol products for years and havenā€™t been happy with the results. Iā€™m now using Retinol A (Stieva-A) which is a prescription and a recommendation from you. I also use CeraVe and Body Drench Argan Oil for moisturizing my face. Thanks for all your tips on anti aging.

    1. I don’t notice a smell at all! Let me check the link.

  11. I can vouch for the Elta MD mineral sunscreen in tinted and untinted. This was my favorite earlier in the year, but the cost in Canada is prohibitive. It works very effectively for fair, sensitive skin, causing no white cast or irritation.

    1. Itā€™s really a good one.

  12. Maureen Willits says:

Hi Jennifer. I like when you post products that donā€™t break the bank! I am a fan of Lā€™Oreal products that I find work very well for me. I have not tried the one you posted here, but have used their line of Aged Perfect for several years. The moisturizer has an SPF of 30 so I get double duty from it. I buy them when CVS has their ā€œbuy one get one at 50% offā€ or has an ā€œextra bucksā€ offer. I use Ceraveā€™s night formula before bed. I like their products as well. So, might try the cleanser you posted here. Have a great weekend!

    1. Happy weekend Maureen!

  13. These all sound like great products! I use the Advanced Clinicals Retinol cream. It works well but I can’t use it everyday on my face. I do use it for saggy underarm skin and on my knees. I like L’Oreal too. Thanks for the great info.

  14. Buy you some Redkin Guts. Wonderful for volume and fine hair. Also Redkin thicking lotion.

  15. Linda Shearer says:

Love advanced clinical products. I use the manuka honey lotion, and the hylaronic acid mask!

    1. I do too. Theyā€™re really good.

  16. Virginia Flynn says:

    Hi Jennifer!
Perfect timing for this post! I’m 67 and got tired of wearing makeup which with cream foundation and powder eye shadow only added more texture to my skin making me look and feel older. Three weeks ago I discovered “Skin Cycling” which is a 4-day revolving night time skin care schedule. It was developed by Dr. Whitney Bowe, a dermatologist. All the products I use MUST be cruelty-free and I have found e.l.f. Products to fit that criteria as well as being economical and well-performing. I use mostly the e.l.f. Holy Hydration products. I do use Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2%BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant as my leave-on exfoliant, and Honest Hydrogel Cream for my “Slug”. Both of these are available through Amazon.
Skin Cycling is done at night and my morning routine is the same every day: cleanse, tone, vitamin C serum, moisturize and sunscreen. Also don’t forget the neck area. The face can look great but the neck shows age, so I extend my face care down my neck to my dĆ©colletĆ©.
The results are amazing! Even after the first couple days, my skin felt better and that made me feel better! This is along with drinking more water, eating better, exercise, and better sleep, all things I’ve been working on improving. One of the best perks is not having to buy and wear makeup anymore! Makes for much faster out-the-door! šŸ™‚
Enjoy your day, Jennifer, and thank you for this post.

    1. I loved reading your comment Virginia. Thank you! Yes, I have been reading a lot about the benefits of skin cycling. It makes a lot of sense to me. I love and use Paulas Choice skin perfecting acid. It’s pretty amazing! Your routine sounds fabulous.

  17. I’m on my second summer with Ulta MD sun cream. It’s not noticeable on the skin and keeps my skin from aging in sun all day.
I have the Kp bump chaser and it does a great job to smooth body skin after summer skin exposure. The smell goes downhill after keeping it awhile.
In addition, I have been using Roc overnight skin cream for sensitive skin, for years. Very effective. I alternate every other night with CeraVe healing ointment.

I am still looking for a body cream with SPF.

    1. Roc is very popular line. Thanks for mentioning it.

  18. Your article addresses women in their 60ā€™s. I am well into my 70ā€™s and just let me say that non of my skin or hair issues have gotten any easier to maintain. I am a huge fan of Advanced Clinicalā€™s products. Great quality at an amazing price. I hadnā€™t used a retinol product for awhile and just started up again with StriVectin moisturizing retinol. My papery thin skin responded so well and it made me realize how vital this routine was to keep my skin fresh and renewed. This product was a steal at Costco!
As for moisturizers, Australian Gold has several that are amazing!

    1. Thank you for sharing Jan. I havenā€™t tried StriVectin but Iā€™ve heard very positive reviews.

  19. I regularly use the CeraVe facial cleanser, and have used the body wash. Iā€™ve read advice from ā€œexpertsā€ that itā€™s not necessary to splurge on cleansers as they interact with our skin a short period of time and are rinsed off. Made sense to me. My highly sensitive skin handles the CeraVe products well.

    1. That does make total sense about cleansers. So long as theyā€™re thorough and gentle, Iā€™m happy.
