Casual White and Black Outfits

Happy Wednesday ladies. After several weeks of experimenting with color, I have a confession to make and I’m diving back into a few black and white outfits. White and black may not be the most fun or uplifting combination but there’s no question it’s easy and you always look chic wearing it.

I love the slimming effect we get from a column of color so I started with head to ankle white and topped it with this white and black floral topper that my friends at Chico’s sent to me. It does have a one-button closure but it’s not the sort of jacket I would ever do up. It has very long cuffs that I decided to fold up to help offset the length.

The shoes are years old. I wear them sparingly so they won’t wear out. The block heel makes them stable but more importantly, I used my favorite alteration hack to improve their comfort.

These jeans are a high-rise, no-stain skinny style. Several of you have mentioned that you avoid wearing white because it gets grimy so easily. I admit that jeans can be a magnet for spills so the technology of this stain-repel fabric is petty ingenious. They’re available in regular and petite. I’m wearing the regular because the petites have a shorter rise. That wouldn’t matter for most people but with my long torso, every little bit makes a difference and I find the higher the waistband, the less muffin top there is.

I have a confession to make. With the shape of jeans changing, my love for the skinny is fading. There, I’ve said it. That’ll sound like sacrilege to many women and it’s not as though I’m calling them the 2021 version of “mom” jeans, but they feel dated to me. My wardrobe is filled with them and I know I’ll continue to wear them, but right now, they simply don’t feel as modern as straight or slim jeans.

I switched out those skinny jeans for these no-stain slim girlfriend jeans and find them infinitely comfier. Needing to adjust or fuss with my clothes is a pain. Even with my slim legs, skinny jeans always bunch around my calves and feel like they need to be tugged down or smoothed whenever I sit or bend. Slim or straight don’t do that so they’re easier to wear.

These have the same no-stain technology, a slim look plus a skosh more room in the legs.

I changed out the simple white tee for this black henley and the silver jewelry for these longer, white and black earrings. I’m surprised how much I’m loving these earrings because the lines are clean but they make a statement. A necklace would have felt like overkill to me because of the little white buttons on the top.

Are you a fan of white jeans?

Dare I ask…how about skinny jeans?

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. I was almost ready to give up on white jeans until I saw you in them. I had not purchased a pair in years. So, I gave in and purchased a pair, but Chico’s couldn’t fit me. I did get the black and white jacket which I think will be a go-to jacket. I love the way you changed things around–accessories and all. You look great in everything!

The skinny Jean and the tunic top have been a match made in heaven for a good many years now. I do love how they look with any kind of shoe, flats, heels or boots. They wonā€™t go completely away for me because it would take away some of my options, but I have been mixing in wider leg pants for a couple of years now, because you really need them to wear the majority of tops. Plus, leggings and skinny jeans begin to feel like they are smothering your legs after a long winter, especially this past winter! Yes I always have some white pants in rotation in the summer! Itā€™s a great way to look cool on a hot day and still not freeze inside a store or restaurant! One of my favorite looks is white pants with a black top. Always looks sharp to me! Thanks for another great post and for keeping us up with the trends!

  3. Love the B&W outfit – never goes put of style!
Have a comment on Chicos jeans. Live the quality but I they contain spandex and I find they become very loose after wearing an entire day. Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks!

    1. Mine loosen up too which is why I wash and dry my jeans after every wearing. I know they say not to but it works for me.

I also am a bit tired of skinny jeans and extra flowy tops. However, wider legs bring up length issues. Skinny ankle jeans look great with any shoe, When the width gets wider, ankle length looks frumpy and too short. I’ve purchased boot cut but find them breaking sloppily over flat shoes. I would love you to do a blog on pant lengths/widths.

  5. Iā€™m glad to see skinny jeans go away. Even though I donā€™t have big calves, they always scrunched my legs and, like you mentioned, I always had to be pulling them down. The other reason I donā€™t care for them is because they make my thighs look bigger in comparison. Slim and straight leg jeans kind of balance my look better. And YES, I love white jeans!

  6. I still love my skinny jeans with tunic sweaters and other tops. I do have several pair of straight leg also which get a lot of use. Your outfits are always lovely. Like the column of white under the coat.

Iā€™m kind of glad to see the skinny jeans on their way out. They do look great with boots but at 5ā€™2ā€ and busty, tunics are not my best look and I need to wear something long with the skinny jeans. Some tunics make me feel like Iā€™m wearing maternity clothes. I bought a cute pair of NYDJ white jeans last summer but since I had nowhere to go I still havenā€™t worn them, hopefully this year!

  8. Black and white outfits are always in style. I really like your shoes, a lot! Too bad they are not available any longer.

  9. Hi Jennifer, I love black and white! I only wear black, white or dark denim pants and jeans. No colors in pants or denim. I feel that I donā€™t get enough use out of them. I do wear color in my tops and jackets. As for skinny jeans, I love them with tunic tops. With other kinds of tops I like straight legs.
I like your style and enjoy your posts!
