When millennial pink exploded on the scene I wasn’t overly interested. My style goals have always included looking elegant and sophisticated which pink seemed the antithesis of. The older I got the less important it felt to look sophisticated but I still wanted to look elegant. I shared my complicated history with pink here, and how to choose your most flattering pink here.
Over the last few years I’ve slowly added more pink to my wardrobe and this year I’ve gone all in with this trench coat. I tried it on during a dressing room diaries at Talbots and fell hard. I knew I liked it but after your reaction, I looked at my images closer and decided I had to own it.
Style Tip – Begin taking selfies of your outfits to get a different perspective of how things look on you.
Our weekends are all about visiting open houses these days so I took this trench out for its inaugural wearing on Saturday. Can I just say, I love it! Color does have the power to transform gloomy days and our’s was certainly that. It went from dark and ominous to cerulean skies with puffy clouds to torrential downpours. No matter the skies, I felt cheerful and happy wearing this coat.
I wore it over a thin cotton turtleneck, NYDJ straight jeans, and cozy booties. I find wool and cashmere turtlenecks too warm for me these days but lightweight cotton is perfect. These jeans have a full 10″ rise which hides/prevents muffin top. If I ever hear rises are going back down this will be the brand I stock up on. I’ve been wearing NYDJ for years because their lift-tuck technology gives great tummy control, they wash beautifully and are available in tons of leg options.
Simple hoop earrings, black booties, and a sparkly necklace completed my look. I bought these hoops at Nordstrom many years ago and wear them constantly. I found a pair here on sale at QVC. Heels have become increasingly uncomfortable so I’m not sure why these aren’t. I can only assume it’s the construction. My Eileen Fisher shoes and boots are among the most comfortable I own.
I’ve become more flexible with my style as I age. I enjoy experimenting and am finding more joy in fashion. This pink may not look sophisticated but it sure is flattering and fun to wear. The older I get, the more I use flattering and fun as a yardstick to measure which garments to wear.
How about you?
Thanks for reading and have a great day.
